I tend to feel that there’s quite a lot of oil still out there!

And I tend to feel there’s quite a lot of those global warming eco-tards still out there!

But fuckin’ A – legalize all hemp and marijuana immediately as a minimum step towards a healthy world!

exactly how much of the planet’s surface would we have do dedicate to hemp cultivation in order to replace current levels of fossil fuel consumption with hemp oil?

a few planet’s worth, i believe.

not so say it isn’t a good alternative, but it just needs to be coupled with a vast decrease in energy use and a vast increase in energy efficiency.

point being that no alternative or combination of alternatives will allow us to continue business as usual and maintain the standard of living we in the First World have grown accustomed to.

“a few planet’s worth, i believe.”

You’d be wrong. What’s new?

And being the forward thinker you think you are (heh), uh why is it that in these discussions you always fail to mention the people. You know, fewer people would be a big help. Fewer tards would help even more …

here’s an interesting fact for you bio-fuels advocates, from the book Peak Oil Survival by Eric McBay:

Every year, humans use 400 times as much energy as is captured by all the plants on earth. That means that if one year’s growth of every plant on the planet was turned into biofuels, it would still only produce one-quarter of 1 percent of the energy civilization uses every year.

why is it that in these discussions you always fail to mention the people. You know, fewer people would be a big help. Fewer tards would help even more

oh come on! i constantly bring up the population issue, advocate voluntary and intelligent reductions in birth rates, and have myself taken concrete steps in this direction. did you know these new “clip” vasectomies are reversible?!? (this is somewhat debatable, but still… at least i’m not leaving the burden on the shoulders [or rather, the ovaries] of the ladies)

Listen to Tony Blair, there is no technological solution to the energy problem…....

Anyway, Shift is right on both accounts.

Photosynthesis is far too ineffecient a method of energy capture to ever substitute for the fossil and nuclear fueled systems of energy distribution to which mankind has become accustomed.

Downsizing the need for energy, the population dependent upon it and/or radically increasing per capita energy efficiency are the apparent choices and under the current economic conditions all three avenues are becoming increasingly urgent.

On the upside, more solar energy is cast upon the Earth’s biosphere each day than is contained in all the coal and oil remaining on the planet and humankind has already developed far more efficient means to capture this abundant source of energy than photosynthesis.

Solar energy is our future, if we are to have one.

Biofuels, especially ethanol are pure unadulteated folly.

One half of the carbon contained in the feedstock for an ethanol plant is emitted as carbon dioxide during the fermentation process.

The remaining half during the utilization of the fuel.

This is an inescapable chemical fact.

While the vision of fields of hemp may appeal to the mind’s eye and I personally support the growing of hemp for food and fiber, the sooner we embrace solar technologies in their various forms, the better for all.

Peace,

Help Save the Earth, Time to Substitute Sunshine for Oil

No additional water vapor necessary.
